2016 Red Meat Industry Forum
On 10 November 2016, the Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC) helmed the annual Red Meat Industry Forum and AGM, live-streamed from Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills.
The theme for 2016 was 'Towards 2020 and beyond – Fostering prosperity in the red meat industry', with a specific focus on the future as well as on the current state of Australia’s red meat and livestock industry – including the role Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) is playing in building producer profitability, sustainability and global competitiveness under its new Strategic Plan 2016-2020.
This year’s RMAC industry forum discussed key market issues and opportunities for Australia’s red-meat industry in 2016 and beyond, with particular focus on South Australian beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat producers.
Along with the official AGM proceedings, the program featured various forums helmed by senior industry leaders, including:
- James Campbell, Director of the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) and CEO of Sanger Australia;
Simon Crean, Chair of the Australian Livestock Exporters Council (ALEC) and former Federal Leader of the Opposition and Minister for Primary Industries;
- Lachie Hart, Chair of the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) and MD of Stockyard Beef;
- Tess Herbert, President of the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA) and Director of Gundamain Feedlots and Ladysmith Feedlot; and
- Howard Smith, Central Queensland beef and grains producer and President of the Cattle Council of Australia (CCA).
The forum also included Q&A panel.
